A notable director, special effects director and designer working on both tokusatsu and anime.

He started his career in 1984 working on Godzilla as a modeler for the monsters. The same year he joined Daicon Film, working on the special effects of the tokusatsu movie *Yamata no Orochi no Gyakushu*, and later became one of the founding members of Studio Gainax.

In 1992 he established Studio GONZO alongside other ex-Gainax staff Shouji Murahama, Hiroshi Yamaguchi and Mahiro Maeda.

His most notable achievements in tokusatsu are working as special effects director for *Gamera: Guardian of the Universe* (1995), and as both special effects director and director, on *Shin Godzilla* (2016).
